Manor College Men’s Soccer Defeats Bucks County Community College

JENKINTOWN, PA—Three different Manor College (1-3-0) players scored goals and sophomore goalkeeper Thomas Hipwell (Cheltenham, PA/Cheltenham) made 15 of 16 saves as they defeated Bucks County Community College (4-3-0), 3-1, in a non-conference match-up. 

Manor opened the scoring in the third minute on its first shot on goal of the match.  Off of a Bucks County turnover, freshman forward Phedel Saye (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) passed left to freshman defenseman Innocent Bazongo (Philadelphia, PA/Fels) inside the 18-yard line and shot it past sophomore goalkeeper Josiah Gibboni in the right-hand corner of the net. This was Bazongo's first collegiate goal.  The Blue Jays nearly made it 2-0 in the sixth minute when freshman midfielder Jehbleh Jah's (Philadelphia, PA/George Washington) collided with Gibboni on a header, but, the Centurion defense cleared it out.  In the 18th minute, Bazongo's shot to the left side of the goal was cleared out of bounds by freshman forward Howard Haas.  Haas' shot in the 20th minute was saved by Hipwell near the 18. Bucks County nearly tied it again in the 35th minute when freshman midfielder Serge Outtara's shot deflected off Hipwell in front of the goal.  Freshman midfielder Kyle Baxter's shot towards the end of the half was caught in the air by Hipwell.  The Blue Jays led at halftime, 1-0.

Jah's shot went wide left of the goal in the 49th minute.  Bucks County sophomore midfielder Shawn McComas committed a tripping a penalty inside the 18 in the 51st minute.  Manor sophomore midfielder Kevin Rodriguez' (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) penalty kick extended the lead to 2-0. This was Rodriguez' second goal of the season  Bazongo passed to Jah inside the 18 and shot it past Gibboni into the left-hand corner of the net for 3-0 lead in the 60th minute.  Centurion freshman forward Derek Czerniak shot was saved by Hipwell on the left side of the goal in the 66th minute.  Freshman midfielder Tyler Andre's shot on goal in the 74th minute was stopped on Hipwell's sliding tackle. Bucks County freshman midfielder Seth Dubinski shot on a wide open goal, but, it was cleared by Manor freshman defenseman Steven Heller (Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Towne Charter) in the 77th minute.  However, the Centurions scored its only goal of the game in the 79th minute.  Midfielder Victor Molina's direct kick found sophomore defenseman Mark Jurewicz around the 18 and shot it past Hipwell on the right side of the net to close out the scoring for the match. 

Saye led the Manor offense with nine shots on goal. He also had an assist. Bazongo added seven shots, a goal, and an assist.  Manor outshot Bucks County 34 to 18. 

The Blue Jays' victory broke a five-game overall losing streak, dating back to last season.  They last won on October 13, 2013 at Region XX CCBC-Catonsville (4-2).  Manor also broke a three-game home losing skein, also dating back to last season.  They previously won at home on October 10, 2015 versus Region XX Division III Northern Virginia Community College (2-1).  The Blue Jays last defeated a Region XIX school (either Division I or III) on September 19, 2015 (12-0 at Division III Lehigh Carbon Community College).  They last won a Region XIX home game on September 8, 2015 (6-1 versus Division III Delaware County Community College).

Since 2005, Manor still holds the series lead versus Bucks County Community College, 10-4-0.  This was the first time the Blue Jays defeated the Centurions since September 26, 2013 (4-1), breaking a brief two-game series losing streak.   Manor last won at home versus Bucks County on August 29, 2013 (3-0).

The Blue Jays' next home game is versus Region III Division I Monroe Community College 3:30 p.m. Friday, September 23.
