Blue Jays finish season 16-2-0, most wins since 2007
JENKINTOWN, PA—Between 1989 and 2007, the Manor College men's soccer team won multiple EPCC (Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference) and PCAA (Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association) state championships, the last ones in 2007. Between September 4, 2008 (its first NJCAA game) and September 29, 2011, Manor registered an 11-35-4 (0.260 winning percentage) record. They scored 72 (1.44 per game), but, allowed 152 goals (3.04). Defensively, during that same period they registered five shutouts, but, opponents shut the Blue Jays out 16 times.
The Blue Jays' (16-2-0, 11-1-0 NJCAA Division III Region XIX, 11-1-0 EPAC) won its first regular season NJCAA Region XIX title and the inaugural EPAC (Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference) championship. This was its first regular season title of any kind since winning the 2007 EPCC championship.
Since October 3, 2011, Manor registered a 23-3-2 (0.857) record. They scored 97 (3.46/game) and allowed 20 goals (0.71). They also made a defensive turnaround by shutting out opponents a dozen times. The Blue were shut out once during this period.
In 2012, the Blue Jays' 11 shutouts is the most the since 2007 (the season before they joined the NJCAA). They registered seven shutouts in eight games and eight of their last 11. Manor has allowed seven goals on the season in 14 games.
Offensively, under third-year coach John Dempster, Manor has scored 79 goals (4.65), also the most since 2007 when they scored 82 in 16 games (5.13). In the previous three seasons (48 games), the Blue Jays scored 66 goals (1.38).
Prior to its 3-2 loss to Bucks County Community College on October 17, 2012, the Blue Jays won 19 straight regular season games between October 3, 2011 and October 15, 2012. During this same period, they were also on a 25-game unbeaten regular season streak (23-0-2). Before Manor's loss to Bucks County Community, their last regular season defeat was to County College of Morris on September 29, 2011 (2-1 in overtime). Dating back to the beginning of the 2011 season, Manor is 12-2-2 at home.
Manor's 16-game winning streak to open the season is the most since 2007 when the Blue Jays finished the season 16-0-0 and won EPCC and PCAA championships.
The Blue Jays also received votes in three NJCAA Division III Men's Soccer National Polls (October 3, 10, and 17). This was the first time since Manor joined NJCAA when they received any national poll votes.
On October 23, Manor College men's soccer (16-2-0) lost to Sussex County College, 3-2, in double overtime in NJCAA Region XIX Division III playoff action. This was the first ever Blue Jays' NJCAA Division III home playoff game and the first since 2007 when they were EPCC members. The top-seeded Blue Jays' earned a bye in the Eastern Pennsylvania Bracket (Bracket A) and its first NJCAA home playoff game after finishing the regular season with an 11-1-0 Region XIX Division III record . This was Manor's first home loss since September 29, 2011 when they were defeated by County College of Morris 2-1 in overtime.
The men's soccer program played in consecutive NJCAA postseasons for the first time since the 2006 and 2007 seasons when they were EPCC members. They join women's basketball (2009-2011) as the only Manor College programs to participate in consecutive NJCAA postseasons.
