JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (13-4 overall, 5-0 Eastern States Athletics Conference) senior guard Tyray Cooper (Baltimore, MD/Woodlawn) led both teams with 26 points as the ninth-ranked USCAA Division I Blue Jays defeated the top-ranked USCAA Division I Bloomfield College Bears (17-6), 83-79.
The first half featured four ties and four changes. After junior guard Manny Roach's (Medford, NJ/Life Center Academy) three-point tied the game at 14 with 13:24 left, Bloomfield responded with 10-4 run between 12:46 and 11:00 remaining (a 1:46 stretch), took its largest lead of the game, 24-18, on junior guard Olamide Adewale's three-point basket. The Bears took its last lead, 33-30, with 6:18 left on sophomore guard Devin Artis' layup. Manor answered with a 16-4 run between 5:01 and 0:12 left (a 4:49 stretch), and took its largest lead of the first half, 46-39, which was also the halftime score on Cooper's layup. During this run, the Blue Jays also took the lead for good, on Cooper's layup with 4:21 remaining. Cooper led both teams with 18 first-half points. Junior forward Deacon Linder (Philadelphia, PA/Hardy Williams Academy [Mastery]) and Roach scored 10 points each for the Blue Jays.
Manor took its first double-digit lead of the first half, 49-39, with 19:09 left on senior forward Cheikh Diagne's (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) three-point basket. Bloomfield got within 50-48 with 15:41 remaining on freshman guard Cameron McRae's free throws. The Blue Jays also took additional second-half double-digit leads. They led 64-54 (with 10:55 left), 66-56 (10:10), and 70-59 (8:39). The Bears got within four points, 70-66, on junior guard Na'Shawn Jones' layup with 6:54 remaining, and 72-68 with 5:22 left on Artis' layup. Diagne's three-point attempt that bounced multiple times before going in as the shot clock was expiring with 3:06 left, gave Manor a 77-68 lead. Artis' three-point basket with 1:51 remaining got the Bears within 77-74. Sophomore center Nissir Cook's (Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Academy Charter) acrobatic layup with 1:01 left gave Manor a 79-74 lead. Freshman guard Jahi Whitney's three-point basket with about 51 seconds remaining got Bloomfield within 79-77. Roach's layup with 0:23.7 and Cooper's layup with 0:14.7 left (following a Bears' turnover) wrapped up scoring for the Blue Jays. Bloomfield outscored Manor in the second half, 42–37. Whitney led both teams with 12 second-half points. Diagne paced the Blue Jays with 10 points.
This is the first time the Blue Jays have defeated a number one ranked team at any level. They previously played a number one USCAA Division I school on February 3, 2024 at home versus The Apprentice School. The previous highest-ranked team that Manor defeated was second-ranked National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX Division II Essex County College, 75-73, on February 11, 2017.
Manor has won five consecutive games overall and nine out of 10 after starting the season 4-3.
Statistical Leaders: In addition to Cooper, Linder scored 15 points. Diagne and Roach added 12 points each. Senior forward Bryce Nwobu (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) led both teams with 11 rebounds and seven assists. He also contributed three steals. Cook came off the bench to score 11 points and led both benches with six rebounds.
Artis, senior guard Zamorian Singleton, and Whitney led Bloomfield with 12 points each. McRae scored 11 points. Junior forward Brandon Hendryx contributed a "double-double" with 10 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds. He shared the team lead with Artis with three steals. Jones paced the Bears bench with 11 points. Singleton led Bloomfield with six assists and two blocked shots.
