STATEN ISLAND, NY—Wagner College (5-6) junior guard Nick Jones came off the bench with a team-leading 13 points as the NCAA Division I Seahawks defeated the eighth-ranked USCAA Division I Manor College Blue Jays (8-4), 74-57, at the Spiro Sports Center.
This was the Blue Jays' final game before the College's Holiday Break.
Wagner led for the entire game and scored the game's seven of the first nine points in the first 3:29 of the contest. Manor got within one, 7-6, on junior guard Manny Roach's (Medford, NJ/Life Center Academy) jump shot with 14:38 left. The Seahawks answered, scoring nine straight points between 13:55 and 12:13 remaining (a 1:42 stretch), and took its first double digit lead of the game, 16-6, on Jones'three-point basket. The Blue Jays also got as close as 20-15 with 7:03 left on senior guard Tyray Cooper's (Baltimore, MD/Woodlawn) layup. Wagner twice took its largest first half lead, 34-16, on sophomore forward Binael Basil's free throws with 0:39 left and, 36-18, on Jones' free throws with 0:03 remaining, which was the halftime score. The Seahawks finished the final 5:45 of the first half on a 16-3 run. Jones led both teams with 11 points. Sophomore forward Zavier Fitch added 10 points for Wagner.
The Seahawks opened the second-half scoring and led 38-18 with 18:56 left on redshirt freshman guard/forward Makhai Anderson's tip-in layup. The Blue Jays answered with a 14-4 run between 18:47 and 14:46 remaining (a 4:01 stretch) and got within 42-34 on Roach's layup. Basil's layup with 14:25 left gave Wagner a 44-34 lead. The Seahawks maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. Manor would twice get within 12 points for the remainder of the game. Cooper's free throws with 12:07 remaining got the Blue Jays within 48-36. Junior forward Deacon Linder's (Philadelphia, PA/Hardy Williams Academy [Mastery]) three-point basket with 8:21 left got Manor with 54-42. Manor outscored Wagner in the second half, 39-38. Roach led both teams with 19 second-half points. Cooper scored 10 for the Manor.
Statistical Leaders: Roach led both teams with 28 points. Cooper scored 14 points and paced teams with eight rebounds. He led Manor with three steals. He shared the team lead with senior forward Cheikh Diagne (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) with three assists. Sophomore center Nissir Cook (Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Academy Charter) paced the Blue Jays with two blocked shots.
In addition to Jones, junior guard Eddie Placer scored 11 points. Fitch added 10 points and shared the team lead with Jones with six rebounds. Junior guard John Awoke came off the bench and led both teams with five assists.

Per game, they have allowed fewer assists, blocked more shots, and opponents have committed more personal fouls compared to last season's Holiday Break.
