JENKINTOWN, PA—Manor College (4-1) senior forward Bryce Nwobu (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored 27 points, and led the team with 10 rebounds, and four assists as the Blue Jays defeated the NCAA Division III University of Valley Forge Patriots (2-4), 99-89.
This is Manor's final game before the College's Thanksgiving Holiday Break.
Manor led for the entire game. Valley Forge got as close as 4-2 on senior forward William Lawder's jump shot with 17:28 left. They also got within three points multiple times: Junior forward Denzel Pierre's free throw (17-14 with 10:26 remaining), Pierre's layups (19-16, 9:25 and 21-18, 7:10), and senior forward Isaiah Reece's free throw (23-20, 6:01). The Blue Jays took its first double-digit lead, 32-21, on Nwobu's layup with 3:10 left. Manor took its largest first half lead, 42-26, on Nwobu's free throws with 0:14 remaining. The Blue Jays finished the final 5:46 on a 19-6 run. Defensively, after Pierre's layup with 7:10 remaining, Manor allowed one field goal for the remainder of the half. Manor led at halftime, 42-26. Junior guard Manny Roach (Medford, NJ/Life Center Academy) with 14 points.
The Blue Jays maintained a double-digit lead for most of the second half. Manor twice took its largest leads of the game, 19 points, within the first 4:32 of the second half. Nwobu's layup and free throw gave the Blue Jays a 55-36 lead with 16:00 left and Roach's three-point basket gave them a 58-39 with 15:28 remaining. Valley Forge answered with a 14-4 run between 15:11 and 12:34 left (a 2:37 stretch) and got within 62-53 on Pierre's free throw. Manor answered and went on a 10-3 run between 12:25 and 9:49 remaining (a 2:36 stretch) and expanded its lead to 72-56 on Nwobu's layup. The Patriots went on a 12-4 run between 9:39 and 5:56 left (a 3:33 stretch) and got within 76-68 on sophomore guard Dominick McKenney-George's free throws. Manor continued to hold a double-digit advantage for most of the remainder of the game. Valley Forge would get within single-digits multiple times and got as close as 97-89 with 0:21 remaining on McKinney-George's three-point basket. The Patriots outscored the Blue Jays in the second half, 63-57. Nwobu led both teams with 17 points. Roach and senior guard Tyray Cooper (Baltimore, MD/Woodlawn) scored 13 points each for the Blue Jays. Valley Forge junior guard Michael Broady paced both benches with 14 points. Lawder added 12 points for the Patriots.
Statistical Leaders: In addition to Nwobu, Roach shared the team lead with 27 points. Cooper added 15 points and nine rebounds and led both teams with four steals. Senior forward Cheikh Diagne (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) contributed 10 points for the Blue Jays.
Broady and Pierre led Valley Forge and both benches with 17 points apiece. Reece and Lawder added 16 points each. Lawder paced both squads with 12 rebounds.
